Many fraudulent emails in circulation
Please note: KufNet and Stadtwerke Kufstein will never ask customers by email for access information or other confidential data.
Once again, numerous fake emails are circulating!
With messages such as “Confirm your details,” “KufNet has shared a file with you,” or “Log in to release the document,” online criminals attempt to trick KufNet and Stadtwerke customers into clicking dangerous links or attachments. Their goal: to obtain your passwords, credit card details, or other personal information.
Identifying suspicious emails
“Currently, emails are being sent that supposedly link to KufNet’s webmail interface or the Stadtwerke Kufstein customer portal. Even if they look deceptively real, please remain cautious,” warns Thomas Schwaiger, KufNet employee, and further explains: “Take a close look at the link in the email. It must always end with .kufnet.at or .stwk.at—otherwise, it is a fake website. Do not click on the links contained in the email. Instead, access the webmail service or online portal directly via our official website.”
Important tips for greater security
Thomas Schwaiger also points out additional signs that can help identify fraudulent emails: “These emails are often written in poor German, the recipient’s name is missing in the salutation, incorrect company details are used, or even threats are made (e.g., overdue credit card charges although you do not own a credit card).”
Key recommendations and actions
- Explicitly check the sender’s email address
- Do not click on any links or attachments
- Do not reply to suspicious emails
- Never share login credentials, passwords, or personal information
- If an email is identified as fraudulent, block the sender’s address if possible
- When in doubt, simply delete the email
